Krause Challenge

Join UNI's Krause Challenge team and put your financial knowledge to work while exercising your analytical and investment skills. UNIBusiness students compete against students from Iowa State University, the University of Iowa and Drake University. The object of the competition is to manage actual stock portfolios initially funded by $100,000 gifts to each university from W.A. Krause, chairman of Kum & Go. The team with the greatest financial return at the end of the annual competition wins. The money is retained for future teams.

NAIOP Commercial Real Estate Development Association Minnesota Chapter University Challenge

NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, hosts this competition for real estate students each year. Student teams act as development consultants and present their most feasible highest and best-use solutions to a real estate challenge, such as new site development or redevelopment of commercial real estate.  The subject property could involve office, retail, multi-family, hospitality, entertainment, industrial, or a combination of these uses.

Argus University Challenge

Teams present a paper with their investment analysis and conclusion for a real estate opportunity crafted as a case presentation competition.  Teams utilize Argus Enterprise software to simulate a real-life investment analysis of a commercial real estate property by modeling the provided assumptions in Argus Enterprise and writing a paper describing the outcome of their analysis.  Teams are composed of from 3 to 5 students, currently enrolled, with a faculty member as advisor.  The competition takes place over about 6 weeks during the spring semester each year.

This is a real estate investment competition in which teams of at least 3 students invest $1billion of capital in real estate assets according to industry benchmark/indexes.  Capital is allocated among and across a variety real estate sectors including: private and public, debt and equity, property types, and geographic regions.  The objective is to produce the highest total return for a calendar year.

Private Business Valuation Challenge sponsored by Georgia State University and Business Valuation Resources

The Private Business Valuation Challenge competition, sponsored by Georgia State University and Business Valuation Resources, offers a unique opportunity for teams of undergraduate and graduate university student teams to assess the value of public and private firms, taking into consideration such issues as management exit strategies, mergers and acquisitions, and valuation industry best practices.  The competition provides students with invaluable experience in the area of private business valuation and the opportunity to display their skills against the competition from universities across the country.  The competition includes 4-6 weeks of intensive research and analysis, led by a UNI professor with additional consultation with valuation experts.  Teams making the final round of eight travel to Atlanta to present their findings to a panel of valuation experts.
