Students at the University of Northern Iowa gain fulfilling experiences and valuable real-world skills through their work with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at the Wilson College of Business. This program, which has been aiding taxpayers for fifty years, allows accounting students to become certified tax preparers, helping community members file their taxes under faculty supervision.
Meet Julia Slayden, Mae Franklin, and Ron TeKippe, siblings from Rickardsville, Iowa, who became first-generation college graduates and CPAs. They've created the TeKippe Accounting Scholarship at UNI to support accounting students who, like them, are working hard to pay for their education.
