Freshman Year

Declare a pre-business major.
Complete required BUSINESS 1000 Introductory Seminar for Business Professionals in the fall semester.
Develop a sound approach to learning and studying. Seek free tutoring assistance if necessary.
Learn major requirements through the BUSINESS 1000 class.
Use major worksheets, templates, and academic advisement report to develop a plan of study to graduation.
Remove all holds, including the Advising Hold, prior to registration. To remove the Advising Hold Freshmen need to attend all 4 advising workshop sessions:

Put your classes in the shopping cart and self-register online, based on your enrollment appointment.
Work on meeting Wilson Business admission requirements.
Complete Scholarship form

Career Prep as a Freshman

Sophomore Year

Make sure you meet Wilson Business admission requirements.
Enroll in BUSINESS 2000 Business Professionals in Training.
Consider adding a minor or certificate to enhance your career options.
Read the guide to registration online prior to registering and review the major worksheet periodically to stay on track.
Apply for scholarship opportunities using the common scholarship application here.
Check academic advisement report for errors and discuss with a Wilson Business advisor in CBB 5.
Visit the Study Abroad Center in GIL 28 or contact Elisabeth Soliz in CBB 5 for Wilson Business Study Abroad programs. Ask about Wilson Business fly free programs.
Read the Wall Street Journal and other business related magazines and books to keep on top of current business issues.

Career Prep as a Sophomore

Attend co-op orientation sessions. Network and find internship opportunities.
Attend a career fair.
Have your resume critiqued by a peer advisor and PRP mentor.
Visit a Career Services Advisor in CBB 5 to start developing your career goals
Get involved in leadership and professional development opportunities through student organizations.
Begin building your professional wardrobe. Look for classic pieces and a dark gray or navy suit to start with.

Junior Year

Review the GPA needed for graduation and make sure you are on track to meet the requirement. Talk to an advisor for strategies to improve GPA if needed.
Review graduation policies and make sure you are on track to meet requirements. Discuss deficiencies with a Wilson Business advisor in CBB 5.
Develop a mentoring relationship with a faculty member in your major department.
Consider enrolling in BUSINESS 3000 Intermediate Professional Skills to further enhance your professional readiness skills.

Explore graduate school. Register for any required professional exams.

Career Prep as a Junior

Update your UNI Job Board profile and participate in on-campus interviewing.
Build your network of contacts for possible future job opportunities. Consider contacting Wilson Business alums.
Attend the fall and spring career fairs.
Explore an internship or co-op or consider fulfilling your liberal arts core capstone requirement by studying abroad.
Volunteer for a leadership role in university activities or a Wilson Business student organization.
Think about long-term career goals and investigate possible opportunities for employment.
Continue building your professional wardrobe.

Senior Year

Consider enrolling in BUSINESS 4000 Advanced Professional Skills to further enhance your professional readiness skills.
First meet with a Wilson Business advisor in CBB 5 and then email your record analyst in the Registrar's Office (GIL 115) to ensure you are meeting all requirements for graduation.
Review the GPA needed for graduation for your major and for UNI. Consider repeating a course if necessary.
Apply online for graduation at the time you register for your final semester.
If you plan to attend graduate school, start the application process.

Career Prep as a Senior

Plan your job search. Make sure your UNI Job Board account is up to date and check it often.
Perfect your cover letter, thank you letter, and other job search materials. Practice your interviewing skills with a mock interview through career services.
Secure letters of recommendation for your search.
Schedule weekly time to contact employers, apply for positions, and follow up with the employers.
Continue to build your professional wardrobe.
Attend campus and statewide career fairs.
Interview on campus with employers interested in UNI students.
Attend graduation ceremonies. Congratulations! You made it!
